Do you use HTTPS on your blog?

I've noticed that more and more blogs are using the HTTPS protocol these days even though they don't collect personal data, sell anything or even have the ability to sign-up for anything.

I don't have any of my blogs setup this way and was wondering if any of our members are doing this yet.

Are you using HTTPS (an SSL Certificate) for your blog?

I saw a couple of blogs were using it that I read some posts on but I do not use it myself. I don't know if I need it or not but I don't think I need it.

I should be ok without it right?

I'm not using it but I have been thinking about it because I read there is a small SEO benefit for using that protocol. I would like to know if there are any problems with switching before I go ahead and do it.

I don't currently use it at the moment but it was suggested to me by someone as a way to help my blog get better search rankings. I just wouldn't know how to switch to using it so I haven't done it yet.

I'm thinking of switching to https but I am afraid that it might mess up my traffic and my SEO so I have not done it yet. I need to see what kind of things it will affect before I make the switch.

What is https and its benefits?
The main purpose of https is to provide extra protection for when sensitive private data is transmitted on a website. The information is sent encrypted (turned into code) so that it cannot be intercepted by someone other than the intended recipient.
Google is encouraging all sites to be https to help make the web a safer place, and is incentivizing this by using it as a “lightweight [ranking] signal…” for less than 1% of global queries. In the future they “may decide to strengthen it”. The SEO benefits are currently minuscule, or non-existent.
To use https, you must purchase a SSL security certificate.

No, I'm not using HTTPS yet, but do plan to in the near future. Google has been pushing for this for some time, so it's probably best to implement it sooner rather than later.

I don't use HTTPS for any of my blogs as of now but I will be making the switch on most, if not all, of them sometime this year.

Since Google is trying hard to make sure that everyone is using it I figure I might as well make the change before it's pretty much a requirement.

We have implements this on all our blogs, but honestly I did not see any major increase in rankings. Also, most of the sites that I have come across, are using http and still dominating the serps.

Do you have anyone signing in to your blog for any reason?

If you are then it could wind up being shown as insecure in Google Chrome since they want any site that allows people to log into a site for any reason to have an SSL (https) for that site.

I am also willing to add https to blog in coming months. Google now pushing sites that have SSL enabled in their search engine result page. According to a report by the June of this year 100% of first page of search engine result page are of sites that have https enabled.

If you search for any topic in internet, you probably find that the 80% of sites that are listed on first page are using https. That does not mean that if you install SSL than you get ranking. There are many other factors that help you rank your site.

Since Google is pushing for SSL enabled websites then Google will get it. I am not sure exactly when I am going to make the switch but it will be in the next couple of months I think.

I have also noticed that much of the top search results are for HTTPS websites myself. Google gets what they want.

Using HTTPS increase the trust level, but it have very small impact on ranking.

Yeah, that's one reason why I haven't made the switch on mine yet.

I am using https on my blog/forum. And the reason is these days people are so use to https that they might think your website is insecure and not join. With all of the recent credit card hacks they might think that you're going to steal their information.

Oh yes, since you have a forum it is definitely needed and not just for security but also piece of mind for your members. If you don't have a secure sign-in page then people will see warnings about the site being unsecure in some browsers.

That can scare of some people and that is reason enough to have HTTPS for your forum.
