Need help! 301 redirect urls still in search results

We have changed the url structure on the site however google is indexing both the old and new urls.
We have checked through independent scripts that the urls are redirecting correctly. Any ideas why both are continuing to be picked up by Google?
We are concern that if both pages stay in the index that duplicate content my cause a problem since there are over hundreds of pages being changed.
The redirect is a php 301 redirect since htaccess redirects were not possible

It won't create any problem in term of duplicacy. Search engine take time to forgot the previous pages, as they are shared some where on the web. After few monthly the previous URL stop showing on the web as it get replaced with the new one.

You can go into Google search console and have the old urls removed. At least you used to be able to do that unless they changed it recently. I haven't had to do that in a while but it should still be possible.
