If you have junk web hosting that is down a lot when Google and the other search sites send their bots to crawl your site then that can hurt your rankings.
If you have hosting that is very slow it can also hurt your rankings.
Right now my hosting doesn't seem to be down ever but I really can't tell whether it's fast web hosting or if it's slow. I really have nothing to compare it to.
