I want to get some opinions and see what other members here think about something.

I want to know what opinions are as to if a fast and reliable internet connection is needed for successful internet marketing?

I live in an old part of the city and there are not many options for internet connections so my current internet service is not all that great. I can access it from work at times but we are not supposed to be using the internet for things that are not related to work and they do sometime monitor our activity. Whilst there are ways around that I am sure some of you know, I don't want to risk losing my position at work so I don't use that choice much.

Whilst there are other options, they are quite expensive as seen from my searches.

So, do you think I should just spend a lot more for internet because that can help to make more money from marketing?

What do you think?

:)

a fast and reliable internet connection can help you succeed in everything on the internet, not only internet marketing.

A slow connection can affect to your work hence you need a fast connection to help your IM.

I don't personally think that you need a fast connection although it helps. I do think that you need something reliable though. It's going to just make things a lot easier to have both of these by having them, than not having them.

Having a faster connection can make things go a lot faster and you can get a lot more done in the time that you have to do them. In my opinion, it's usually worth the added expense because you will be able to get more done and make more money than if you don't have them.

Cheers, Dean

Thanks for your opinions guys. :)

I have been looking for other options for internet access but have not found any that are priced at a reasonable price for my area. I really do not want to spend more than I have to but if I must then I may have to.

It really depends the type of site you are supporting as to how fast the connection needs to be. Now on being reliable, that is a must if for no other reason keeping the frustration level at a controllable level.

Many times, especially if we are working full time careers, we will set aside an hour or so, in the evening to catch up on site work, promote the site, upload changes, etc. If you do not have a reliable connection or reliable service that time could become wasted. And in this industry time is money and the balance of time against the requirements of building a business you always want to tilt in your favor.

When building a business control the things that you can control. There will be enough factors, outside your control, that will take time away from your business. Believe me, they always find a way of sneaking into your plans.

Now on speed. A lot of that depends on the type of site and business you are building. For instance, my training site is a good example. I have many gigabytes of streaming video, both on the site and on YouTube. Probably over 200 hours of videos, I cannot even begin to imagine uploading those videos on a slow speed connection, the time outs on the connection would be tremendous.

I support numerous customer sites, customers that I have written their platforms and now support their platforms. If they want a change to their systems, upgrades, additions to the software, etc. I need a reliable and fast connection to support those changes. Some of these sites are 10's of thousands of pages. I can't even imagine performing an offsite backup or recovery on a slow connection.

So you see, it depends on what you are doing. Look at your requirements, realistically, and then decide what you are willing to compromise on. Me, I will do most anything to avoid frustration. It if costs a few bucks more but saves me time and aggravation, it is well worth the cost.

It is like my favorite verse states:

Grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change
The courage to change the things I can
And the wisdom to know the difference.......

Kind of says it all.

I hope this helped.

Thank you for your thoughts.

Whilst I was thinking about the wasted time and that has been something that I was taking into my thoughts about this, I was not thinking about the frustration. It has caused me a considerable amount at times, especially when I have been trying to do something online and I can not get done what I am trying to because of this. I guess I can also consider the extra cost as therapy. :)

Thank you, you are right.

I guess it can increase the potential for making more money. Whilst I do not mind the speed of the connection so much, I do think that if I have one that is more reliable then I can make better use of my time and make more money marketing. :)

Hi Maria, good question! :)

I think as far as marketing goes, there are a couple of old sayings that can sum up this.

#1 It takes money, to make money!

#2 Time is Money!

So basically, if you spend the extra money to make sure that you have a fast and reliable internet service, you can make better use of your time and be more effective at it as well.

Spend the extra money and you will save all the lost or slow time that the unreliable and slow connection is costing you. Believe me, I hate spending money on things that aren't needed. However, in a marketing case, the better your internet service is then the better your time will be utilized for marketing, research and everything else that's required to make more money.

Do you need it? No!

Will it help you be more efficient & make more money? Yes, it can!

Good Luck! ;)

If you can afford to pay the extra money then you should get it. I have had poor internet many times and it will make it hard to work more and make more earnings.

Thank you all for your thoughts on this. I wasn't sure if I should be worried about getting better service and have been really thinking I should but then keep having doubts that it is really needed.

You have all said what I was thinking so thanks for sharing your thoughts, this really helps me! :)
