Are all web hosts about the same?

Of course they are all different, choosing your host will always depends on what you need. Most hosting company offers a great deal specially on starters and some of them will also help you every step of the way. You might want to check on their customer first and maybe ask them about the services that they are getting and how good it is, don't just rely on what the hosting package posted do some background research as well, then you can compare which host is good for you.
Thanks but how can I find out from customers if there isn't an easy way to find them?

Oh no not all the web hosting companies are the same. I thought they were similar myself before I got my web hosting for my blog and I did not get lucky. I got a bad host with too much down time and very long times for help on their support tickets. Some of the times it took over 8 hours and sometimes a lot longer for support help. The hosting might look the same but they are not.

I figured that out now but I really did not think about the downtime and the support quality. I was just seeing the specs that looked the same. I have learned a lot over these last several months so know I know.

I thought some of the same things when I first started with websites. Support and less down time is very important as I have learned from bad experiences.

Yes it's important but it's hard to know what the downtime amounts are and the quality of the support is until you have been with a hosting company.

I know this and I try to find information about hosting places before I buy a service but it can not be easy always to find the good information sources.

I was looking at some of the hosting review sites recently and they all had about the same rankings and when you click on the links to visit the hosting sites they are all affiliate links so I think most of them just rate them based on how much money they make from them.

Most of the top search results will show the same things and most are the same because they just want to make money from people and they don't care if the hosting is bad but just how much they can make. You will have to search for unbiased hosting reviews but it might take some time to find good sites for those.
