Are all web hosts about the same?

I know it's important but sometimes when you do not know much about something it makes it hard to understand what you should be looking for exactly.
True but that's where asking questions about these things on forums like this can really help. You might get the information that you need from another member who has knowledge about something that you don't.

Yeah I know. I still have many things to learn about and sometimes it is hard not knowing things that can help.

Not at all!

Some might look like they are the same as the next host but looks can be deceiving. Some have older outdated equipment that has the same storage space of general specs but they are slower or less reliable.

You also have to think about the support which is just taking care of your customers needs. Some are good and some suck.

Ok. Then is there a way to know if a host is using older equipment?

I don't know of any way but maybe you can post a topic and someone else will know or just see if you can find a way in Google.
Thanks anyway for your help. I did some searches in Google and Bing and can't seem to find anything that can tell how to do it without actually having a hosting service. I will just look into it later.

Sorry but that's just not something that I looked into as far as I can remember. You might post a thread in the hosting section here if you want to know bad enough.

All I could find was people saying to get on their live chat and ask the reps about it. I don't know if that will work or not.

I will post a discussion if I think I need to find out. Thank you

Based on my past experiences many of the people that are on the web hosts live chat don't know details like that. They know the basics but the equipment specs and things like that would probably not be something that they know.

It seems like basic stuff that they should know to me but I really don't know what hosts would require or put more value in their staff knowing.

You might get the impression that all are about the same if you are only looking at what they offer but that is just what you see on the surface.

Many have bad support or bad servers that have a lot of down time or are slow. Check and get some good input before you buy any hosting service.

Yeah it does but many times the support is outsourced to a service where the employees know little to nothing about hosting other than what their screen tells them.

when I first asked this question I had not really read much about it but after reading more on it and getting the replies here I have learned that it just seems that way. I was just new and it seemed that way.

It seemed like that to me too when I first started looking at them the first time myself. I think it's the same for most people who have never bought web hosting or who don't know anything about it.

Yeah I saw all the specs and terms used and they were all very similar or the same. Very confusing because they don't tell you everything.

Not in the least bit!

Some hosts are good, some bad and some in between the 2. Although the specifications might look the same or at least very similar I can tell you from past experience that nothing is potentially farther from the truth.

Find out about any host BEFORE you think about using them to make sure they don't have a bad reputation.

It seems like many are the same from a newbie point of view but I guess that once you get technical you will understand there are many differences that you don't always notice.

It really just comes down to knowledge and experience really. Once you have gained enough of both of these then some things that seem one way for someone new to something will seem another way to those who are in the know.

Of course they are all different, choosing your host will always depends on what you need. Most hosting company offers a great deal specially on starters and some of them will also help you every step of the way. You might want to check on their customer first and maybe ask them about the services that they are getting and how good it is, don't just rely on what the hosting package posted do some background research as well, then you can compare which host is good for you.

They don't tell you some things for a good reason and that's particularly true with support quality. Just like how they don't tell you that "unlimited hosting" is not really unlimited.
