Web hosting in your own country

I have a question about some things that I have seen recently and can not find the answer I need. I want to know if it is good to have web hosting in your home country or if it does not really matter.

Does anyone know the answer to this?

Sorry if this sounds like a basic question but I have never really learned much about some things that have to do with web hosting.

It doesn't always matter if you have your website hosting in your home country or not. If you are targeting a specific country then some people will get hosting in that country so that the servers are close to their target audience/traffic.

Though with use of a CDN (content delivery network) like CloudFlare or MaxCDN it really shouldn't make much of a difference if any.

Personally I would say just go with a good host and then use a CDN as mentioned above.

Hope this helps.

Cheers, Dean.

I think you should get good hosting like dean said above and then you can just use the cloudflare free plan so it will load fast around the world.

Thanks. I was just asking because I didn't know if it would matter for traffic to the site or the rank that it gets in the search sites. I didn't think about cloudflare. I don't really know what it is or how to use it but if that helps then I will check in to it.

Well it can have an SEO impact in the geo location search results (results for a certain area) some say but I really haven't seen it happen myself. Not to say that it doesn't just that I haven't personally seen the results.

If you are targeting a certain country for your website or blog's target audience then you could do that if you wanted, just to see if there is a bump in the search results for that area.

Cheers, Dean.

If you want to target more people in your country then maybe you can host there but if you do not care then I would choose from a good host first.

Well Having hosting in your own country can increase your Local SEO score. It will also make your site loads faster in your own country. However page loading times depends on other factors too like Hosting server quality and its redundancy, How you optimize your website etc.

If you use a CDN like Cloudflare then I don't think it will make much of a difference where your website is getting hosted. Just get a good reliable host and that should be the more important thing.

I know that a reliable host is the most important thing but wouldn't it be a good ideal still to get web hosting in a certain location?

I don't think that it is really going to matter at all unless the host itself is really good or really bad. You might get a little speed increase if you use a host that is close to where most of yout traffic comes from but probably only a small increase.

I just keep seeing things on so many blogs and other places that say to get your web hosting in your own country or the country that you are targeting for your traffic.

Maybe that is just old information. I don't think that I saw any dates on the posts and other information.

It used to be important because in the past the servers were slower and for some other reasons but now with faster servers and content delivery networks like MaxCDN and Cloudflare it's not really that important if it is at all.

I have decided that I am not even going to consider the location of the hosting as a first requirement but I will just look to make sure that the web hosting is good and has good support. I have been seeing a lot of support related problems with hosts being talked about so I don't want poor support so that will be a top priority.

I can understand that because I would not want bad support from a web host myself.
