What do you think of keyword domain extensions?

I have seen a lot more websites using keyword domain extensions for the domain that they are using for their website. Things like .website, .store, .hosting, .guru, .rocks and other domain extensions like these are showing up more and more throughout the search engine rankings.

I personally think some are silly but I guess some have some good uses if they are used appropriately.

What do you think of keyword domain extensions?

I was looking at maybe using one of these because it was related to the niche that my blog is in but the ones that I really wanted were already taken so I just wound up getting a .com instead. I really don't know enough about domain things to know if the keyword ones are good or not so I just stuck with a .com.

There are more people using them because all of the good domains are taken in the usual top choices like the .com's, .net's and they others.

I think that they are fine for using as websites if there are either no other options in a .com or if they are appropriate to what is one the website.

You have to be willing to lose some traffic to the .com version of the domain but if you are ok with that then go for it.

I really would buy any for investment purposes unless they are ultra-premium names but for websites then sure, they can be ok is some situations.

My personal choice is for .com's only usually but I have some that are keyword extensions/nTLD's.

Some of them are ok I think but there are many that will just look dumb and some people will not think they are real or serious websites on them. I think the .ninja one is one of those. Some are ok if they are fitting for the website you use them for.

Some of the keyword domain extensions are ok I think but I like .com domains the best because more people know then and will probably trust them better than some they don't know.

I have been noticing more and more of these are showing up in the search results these days. Sometimes they can be good if they are related to what your site is about.

Yeah and the sad part is that many of them are just sitting there parked or they don't resolve to a site. The owners are not really even using them so they should get out there and try to sell them to someone that will use them.

LMAO, yes that's one that I think is just silly in most cases.

Yeah there are some people that think that a .com domain is more trustworthy and I have run into those type of people often. I think that because more people are familiar with a .com extension then they associate trust with it.

I think because it is one of the real old ones that makes people think the site is more honest and trustworthy.

Yeah that's probably one reason but the bad thing is that a lot of scammers and other people like to buy old ones to use them for bad purposes because they know that some people think that way.

Some people don't realize that the domain name alone doesn't mean honest or trustworthy.

I always like to be cautious and not trust a website if they want me to buy something of give them information until I know they can be trusted.

I'm the same way Keral but sometimes it's hard to know for sure if a website and it's owner/operator can be trusted. Whenever I am in doubt I will go and do some Google searches to see if I can find any information on a website either good or bad.

For example, let’s say your new business wanted to rank for the keyword “awesome cheap widgets”. If you chose an EMD, your website would look like this: awesomecheapwidgets.com

Some of them seem a little unusual to me and do not seem like they are real. I think these will confuse some people because they are different that what they are familiar with seeing.

Yeah some are going to seem unusual but after they have been around long enough they will start to seem more normal.

There are just so many new websites that people are creating all the time that they need new domain extensions because all the good (or most) ones are already long gone.

These new ones will give other people a chance to get a decent name.

I have been away from marketing online and from the internet much of the time these last couple of years and when I start getting back to doing things online I am seeing many of these that I did not know were real.

I saw some and they did not have a www in front of them so I had no clue that they were domains of websites. I think these will be terribly confusing to many people that do not know they exist.

I know that they needed some new ones but they have too many right now that do not make any sense at all. They are probably only wanting to do it to make money and do not care how they look or sound.

I know that they needed some new ones too but they just seem to have gone mad with allowing so many different and often useless extensions to come to be.

Some of the new ones make pretty much no sense and are nothing more than a novelty joke.

Yes but I have been looking at some of them and they do make sense to me. The .hosting one would be good for a web hosting company or maybe a web hosting review blog.

That is a good one I think also. I like the one of .store myself since it would be good for an online or traditional store.

I like the .store domain also. I was thinking about using it if I start an ecommerce website one day. :D
