High commission vs low commission

I was reading some blog posts and it got me to thinking. Would it be better to market high commission affiliate things on my site but I will make less sales or would it be better to market the low commission affiliate things that will sell more quantity.

Which one should I try to do? High commission but less sales or low commission but more sales.

Well It depends on the quality of the product. I usually promote products on the basis of its quality score and have low refunds rates. I really don't consider products on commission basis. I choose products which benefits our users.

I did not think about quality and refund rates. I will look for those now as part of my decisions on products. Thank mate. :D

I am still a newbie internet marketer but it seems like it would be easier to sell things that are lower priced than higher priced since people are easier to spend low amounts of money than high amounts. Worry about the commission amount secondary.

I think you are right about that mate. I know that I am willing to buy something more easily if it is cheap than if it is expensive. If it is expensive I usually do more checking to make sure I want to spend the money.

You will probably be better off to look at which products will sell easier and not just look at the price of them. I made the mistake of only looking at prices and did not look at the demand for the products. I think that demand is more important.

Many people are not sure about things when they buy them so they want to make sure more when it costs more money than with the cheap stuff.

I think that you should look at selling the lower priced items because in my experience in the past it is much easier to sell those things that the higher priced items.

I would put a bigger priority on marketing items that your site visitors may be interested in buying than on what the commission amount is.

Ok. I think that you may be right for that. I guess if nobody wants the product then it doesn't matter what the commission is. Thank you. :D

I am understanding this more now. If I market something nobody wants then I will not make any money so commission amounts will not matter anyway. It is just something for an amateur marketer to learn about.

Yes that is correct. You can't make affiliate money if people are not wanting what you are marketing. I had to learn this myself years ago when I was marketing then. I always tried for high money commissions and did not sell much.

I would personally recommend looking at what things you would have a better chance to make sales with rather that looking primarily at commission amounts.

Find things that will work well for you, your site, your email list and your abilities and you will probably be better off.

It's usually better to take a look around for things that you will be most likely to be able to sell rather than looking solely at the commissions.

Find things that are related to the niche of your website or mailing list and promote things that those types of people may be interested in.

Promoting something just based on commission amounts will probably lead to discouragement so stick with the things that you think will give you the best chance to convert some sales.

You might also want to look at things like refund rates and how much of a demand there is for a certain thing.

Good Luck. ;)

I didn't know about looking at refund rates. I will look at those.

You should go with high commission paying affiliate programs as the rewards will be higher but the ad spend will also be high. Why not split test both the offers together and you will know which one converts better?
You mean try one low commission and one high commission?

You should stick to one at the start and once you get the confidence, you can definitely rum multiple ads for the same product. It really depends on the angle you use to market your campaigns. Do not get carried away with the high commission thing. Focus on one first then you can opt for higher paying offers.

I sometimes do get carried away looking at the commission amounts but I know I should think of other things too. I will take your advice. Thanks mate. :D

The commission amounts really don't have anything to do with the number of sales you might get. That would have more to do with the demand for the product and if you are able to get people that are potentially interested in it to see your promotions.

I would try to find things that are easy to sell and are in demand.

I am trying to do that now that I have learned more about affiliate marketing. I admit that in the start I was looking at the commission amounts more but then after some people told me some things I realized that it does not matter how much you make for sales if nobody buys what you have.

Many of us affiliate marketers have done that even if they won't admit it.
