what are the main factors to keep in mind during website designing?

Hi
I want to know what are the key factors every one must follow in order to generate an eye-catching and beautiful website design? Any suggestions would be really appreciated!

Needs to be responsive. Correct use of heading tags, images should not distort, great content, logical uncluttered layout, and a font that is easy on the eyes. These IMHO would be the most important.

For me the most essential thing is to provide an easy to read experience i.e. use of a large font together with clear use of heading tags which helps with scanning and understanding a page quickly... In addition its also essential to remove clutter i.e. do not use animated, flashy gifs which can be distracting as well as too many widgets, columns, panels on a page which can make it difficult to focus on one section... Use of clear space i.e. less is more is far better in my opinion...

Should I use double sidebars or triple sidebars in my design? which one would be more responsive?

Any design will be good.... It comes down to creativeness of the designer or yourself.

As mentioned, you always want to keep in mind the visitors while balancing your business/personal likes. so a couple of items

  • Visitor Experience (visually and usability)
  • Creativeness
  • Clear and concise on your content

Page structure in regards to SEO, a great looking site with no traffic is not as useful as a crap looking site with great traffic.

I think one thing that someone should keep in mind is that they are not the ones coming to visit the site, it's other people. So going by that, you should use colors, images and other visual things that will appeal to the masses of your target audience.

Too many people design something that only they will like when they should be thinking about what their visitors will/might like.

I think you need at least one graphic related to your content.

White Space
Break up your text with spaces and list.
  • Bold and enlarge your main headings
  • Maybe have one or two more graphics that emphasize important points.
  • Enlarge subheadings.
  • I try to avoid text walls.

I think that the main factor is to always keep in mind what your visitors want and need to view and navigate your site. Make things easy to find and get to as well as easy to read whatever information is on your site.

If your target audience will be viewing your site often through a mobile device then you need to keep these things in mind for the mobile experience as well.

Other than that, make a site that looks nice and visually appealing and professional looking. ;)

One thing I think that site designers should keep in mind is their color choices. Some of the color combinations I have seen lately are crazy looking. Things like a neon color with a brown or something like that. I think that site should also be easy for the people using it to get from one spot to another without having to think too hard as to how to get where they want. Keep the navigation simple!

It must be optimized for mobile use, first and foremost. That means using UI colors that looks great on mobiles, not just random colors.

I am looking to create a site for my marketing and I am still an amateur at site building and design. Are you saying that I should target making the site work and look best on mobile devices first and computers second? I'm trying to make some notes before I start my site.

Both are important. But more people are using mobile phones, and the number is increasing. So most of the visitors to your website will be accessing it from mobiles. I mean, optimize for desktops and mobiles, but prioritize mobile. If you have to choose between mobile and computers, always choose mobile. Good luck, and continue to take notes before you commit. :Thankyou:

So then if I go with wordpress for a site then should I make sure that I get a theme that is specialized for mobile devices and not worry too much about if it's not the best choice for regular computer users?

A well designed site will serve both desktops and mobile devices well and be fully responsive. Always target for the broadest audience. If you are getting into internet marketing your visitors will be a good mix of mobile and desktop. They may find the site on a mobile device but they will normally read the site and the articles, if they are truly interested, on a desktop.

Well designed mobile sites tend to leave off many of the images and charts, for speed reasons, that would interest someone looking to learn internet marketing, and most users know that. As wireless speeds continue to increase this will become less and less of an issue.

The first thing to consider before you design the site is what you are trying to convey with your site. What are you selling, what information are you passing to your users, what type of content are you looking to display, etc. These are important aspects of your site design. I can tell you from designing hundreds of sites, you will not get it exactly the way you want it on the first attempt. I have never had that happen with a customer site. We can normally get it pretty close but there will always be areas that will need to be tweaked as it goes on line.

If you wait to get the perfect design and layout, you will be waiting forever. All browsers and rendering engines view sites a little differently and it is those minor differences that will cause you to go back over and over again to tweak the layout and content.

Responsiveness is very important, as is speed, color, balance, layout and graphics, all of those other than speed have been discussed. Speed is becoming a very important aspect of SEO, so make certain you optimize your graphics and keep your code to a minimum to get quick loading times.

Security is also very important especially if you are selling items on line. Make certain whatever platform you use has good security features. One of the many reasons I would not venture into WordPress or any of the other big out-of-the-box CMS platforms. Their popularity has caused them to become targets for hackers, especially if the site becomes popular.

One of the biggest mistakes that I see is web design and web development individuals and companies promoting their services with a WordPress or Joomla, or many other CMS systems, as their website. Customers are pretty smart and if you do not have the skills to develop your own company site how can you develop the customer site. It is amazing how many individuals actually try to pass off a CMS template as their own site. With the ability to view the source of any site on-line it is very quickly determined.

There are many things to designing a good site. You should not expect to know all of them out of the gate. It will take you time to learn what works best for your audience. As your audience grows and you get feedback, tweak your layout, update your content and allow the site to grow.

A well designed website is like a living organism, it will grow and mature and develop based on the input it receives. I have been developing and designing sites professionally and teaching web engineering for over 15 years. Even today I am learning new aspects of web development almost daily, new techniques, new design patterns, new customer requirements.

Where I get the most enjoyment is learning from my college students. Fresh eyes, looking at an old problem, can come up with some really unique solutions.

Never stop learning and growing, everyone has information to share.

I think that there are many things that you will have to keep in mind when you are designing a website. The colors must look good together, it must be mobile friendly, it must be easy for your visitors to find their way around your site and also do not put to many advertisements. That can look like a junk website.

Following are some of the important tips that you can utilize when designing a website:
  1. Create an easy site navigation structure(Users do not use complicated websites)
  2. Use alt name for every image
  3. Make sure that your website has fast loading speed(Google give more weight to the website with fast loading speed)
  4. Keep the design of your home page simple
  5. Add suitable and high quality images in your design
  6. Include Social Share and Follow Buttons in your design
  7. Implement Calls-to-Action
  8. Avoid using too many pop-ups and advertisements in your website
  9. Choose an appropriate font for your website because every font portrays a special meaning to the audience
  10. Add contact page in your design to make it easier for the audience to contact you
  11. Include a commenting section in your design so that the audience spend more time in your website

Website designing is not just about visual experiences, it's also about providing joy to every visitor so that he visits your site again. Your benefit is when you appoint experienced professionals who help you get maximum business on web and as a result you can cover up the cost easily through profits.

I'd also second the opinion that say you should make your website design very easy to navigate.
