How much do you pay for a web design service?

Recently I was offered by a web designer for creating a function on my site, it was around $150 for the function to create and manage gallery on my Wordpress site. I knew it has more plugins but for some reasons I needed a custom work for it.

I want to know how to determine the pricing for a web design service? it depends the level of the work or time that a web designer spend on his web project?

The best way to figure price is to determine the Level of Effort for the job. What I mean by that is how many hours will the task take to complete by a professional. Have them give you a time frame and then based on the market you are in, determine an acceptable hourly rate.

What I mean by an acceptable hourly rate is what is the going rate in your market for a professional web developer. That is going to vary depending upon where you are in the world. In the United States it will vary city to city, and many other countries the same thing will apply.

What cost me $75.00 an hour in San Francisco, AC. may only cost me $25.00 an hour in Greensboro, NC and only $5.00 an hour in New Delhi. It just depends on the area and the level of expertise of the individual.

What I find most interesting in my web development business. I will on occasion outsource part of a project overseas. More often than not the quality of work that I receive from some of the lower paying areas of the world meets or exceeds the quality of work I get from the higher paying areas. Just goes to show you can't always judge quality by price.

That seems a bit high just to create a function in WordPress. There are so many WordPress designers/developers out there that will do things like this for less than $50, sometimes even less than that.

Some designers/developers charge by time and some by the job, this all depends on the designers/developers. Based on what I have seen, more seem to charge by the job than the time.

I think the prices will depend on how good the designer is and how much experience the person has. People who have much experience will probably want more money but they will maybe do it faster and better so the website can actually be better and cheap in long run.

I quite agree with you about this point, I have ever hired more freelancers to do some custom works for me while I don't have more time to do.

Exactly but I think it often happens with simple works, for complex works, they can need time to analyze the work before giving your time frame and price. And this is very hard to pay by hour unless you have to pay more if you go with this way.

A price of $150 isn't too bad if the quality of work is good and the designer is going to do what you need to be done. Some custom work can run double, triple or even more than that. It's all going to depend on what exactly you need him/her to do.

Of course you can probably get the work done cheaper elsewhere like some of the freelancer websites but I don't know what kind of quality you would get at a lower price. You can always shop around and look at some other work that they have done to see if the quality is what you are wanting.

Hope this helps.

Cheers, Dean.

On websites like fiverr.com or elance.com, a lot of stuff like this can be done for much cheaper.
