Hi everyone,

I have heard that directory links are no longer worth the trouble because they do not determine website ranking on search engines any more yet I keep on seeing new links being put up.

If you are talking about Website Directories, the short answer is yes they are worth it if the directory is trustworthy. If the directory is well managed and doesn't link out to any spam sites or bad neighborhood sites, then it might be a worthwhile link. If the page that your link is going to be on is a page that has a measurable amount of Google PageRank, then it is a good link. If the page your link is on also links out to the other highest quality websites in your niche, then that is a good sign also. It will have a high value of something called Chei-Rank. Some algorithms consider pages with high CheiRank as being more authoritative pages. Most website directories don't fit into any of those scenarios. Certain ones do, like DMOZ.org for example. In those situations, then Yes the link is worthwhile. Otherwise it is probably not worthwhile.

And if you are going to get any directory links, don't bother trying to get links with keyword rich anchor text. Instead just get links with a bare URL to your website. That makes you less likely to get penalized if you happen to get a link from a site that becomes spammy.

No, not any more directory links aren't worth doing for your website. Google is now preferring more related link from the relevant sites with posting accurate category and unique Title and description. So for better organic results you should avoid the directory links.

Yes directory links are still good and can help the SEO of your site but only if they are on quality directories. Just building links from the junk or low-quality directories will usually end up hurting your site one way or another.

Most of the good directories are paid directories so it will usually cost you to get a directory link of any real SEO value.

I'm guessing that putting a lot of effort into them would be a big help, but not necessary. For instance, a person could put the same effort into something else with the same result. However, though, dismissing directory submission as totally bad is jumping to conclusions as Google has stated they like high-quality directories.

Actually the free links directory are poses zero value to your link building because these type of directories are full of junk and spam links. However There are many Paid and high PR directory still available and it is worth trying them.
