SEO ? on my profiles

Being that I am just learning the ins and outs of SEO, I have a general question: I write adult profiles for adult website characters. In the platform/or open text area, on the tool bars, there are link buttons. Is it a good idea to link certain words in the profile to say the main page of the website? And do search engines really pick them up? Here's a non adult example of what I'm talking about; If I were to link THIS to the main page here, would search engines pick it up so that when someone used the search engine to look up the word THIS would it show IMS? Does that make sense?

Interlinking within your site is very important. Using good anchor keywords instead of "click here" is important too..

Interlinking allows search engines to know better which pages are more important within your site, it's like saying that if they want to know more about certain anchor text they have to click the interlink. This gives credit and importance to a page.

This practice makes it easier for search engines crawlers to access your pages, but it also allows real people to navigate your site and hopefully stick around longer.

Now what this does for you is make sure your pages get indexed faster since there are more pages within your site pointing to a particular page and yeah good anchor text allows to know what a page is about.

Hope this information helps you. :)

If the page is crawlable by Google, then Google will see the links. As long as Google sees the links and the links are dofollow links, then yes, those links tell Google that the page you are linking to is important. If you have enough of these internal links pointing to a specific page, then Google will think that page is much more important. The more important Google thinks a page is, the higher it wants to rank that page in the search results.

So here is how this all applies to websites as a whole. If there is a certain page on your website that you want to get to rank as high as possible in Google (whether it is the homepage or some internal page), you can help increase its rank by placing more links to that page from other pages on your website. Most homepages have lots of links pointing at them which is one reason why they tend to rank easier and higher than other pages.

Also, when you create these internal links from one page on your site to another page on your site, it helps to use keywords in the anchor text for the link. If you use keywords then Google will think that page is more relevant for that keyword which then could help it rank higher in the SERPS for that keyword.

Think of links as being able to pass these three really important things: 1) PageRank (authority) 2) Trust (reputation) 3) relevancy (keyword association)

If you want to boost the rankings of any page on your website, then ideally you want to get links from pages with as much PageRank as possible, that are as trustworthy as possible and have the anchor text be as relevant as possible. One high PageRank link from a highly trusted source that uses perfect anchor text can boost your rankings immensely.
