Will making changes to my blog layout hurt it's rankings?

I want to make some design changes to my blog to make it look more modern looking and maybe help it to load a little faster with a better theme.

Will changing the layout of my blog hurt it's search engine rankings?

It might actually help your rankings if you make some changes that will improve the performance (load time) of your blog. Load times is a factor that the search engines use in their search ranking algorithms so an improvement there may help your rankings.

It probably won't make a big difference but every little bit of help in the SERP's will help you get more traffic and potentially make you more money.

Editing your blog posts can have either a positive or negative impact on your search engine rankings.
What if I am just wanting to change the way that things are laid out and organized. The blog posts would stay the same but the design would change a little.

I was wanting to find a theme that helped my blog load faster and that was one of the top things that I wanted. I have noticed that it is getting a little slower to load over time.

I may not be your theme that is causing the slow down but the database might need to be optimized. A good and easy plugin that can help you do that is called "WP-Optimize".

Sometimes just optimizing your database can really make a nice speed difference and might be worth checking out.

Faster is better for SEO but you need to make sure that everything need to be kept on new layout, if no, changes can affect your SEO.

For sure, it will hurt your site SEO ranking if you don't keep site structure like on old layout (heading, links or other tags)

I think it would only hurt your rankings if the theme was not coded right or if it was slower to load than your old one. I am not a SEO expert though so I am not certain of other reasons.

I have not tried doing that because I don't know how to do that but I can check into that.

It should help, as long as the new layout is seo-friendly.
How can I tell if a new layout is seo friendly or not? Is there something to check before using a new layout?

Is there a way to know if a theme is not coded right? I don't know about these kind of things.

I think any time you make any changes to your blog it might affect the rankings is has but the change might be good or bad.

If the changes are something that is good for SEO then it should help them and not hurt them.
