Is sending thank you for subscribing emails a good idea?

I was wondering what some thoughts were on sending thank you emails to people that subscribe to your email list.

What do you think about doing this?

Its is a good practice. It will create a strong bond and trust among your subscribers. They will know that you really cares about them. Give your emails a personal touch

Are you talking about a thank you email that is coming from an autoresponder or by making each one by hand or sending them individually yourself?

Doing them by an autoresponder would be much easier then to have to send each one by hand.

Thank you Everyone for your replies. It seems like everyone agrees that this would be a good thing to do so I will give it a shot and see what happens.

I was probably going to do some kind of form letter. I don't know how to setup an autoresponder or where to do them.

It sounds like it might be a good idea. I might actually try to do this myself and see what happens. It might make people happier with being on the list of someone that is human and friendly to them.

I haven't done this myself but I have received a few thank you emails for some lists that I have subscribed to in the past so obviously some people/businesses think it's a good idea.

I really don't see how it would hurt.

It certainly keeps your subscriber 'in the loop' to what is going to happen next or a space to give instructions on what they can expect or to do next.

For me saying simple word like thank you can create a big impact to you subscribers. Even on us when there is some one that says thank you, we feel that we are value that person a lot and he/she show respect.

I think it's a good idea, If I'm one of your subscribers I would think of how thoughtful and kind of you to make an effort of sending a thank you letter and whether automated or manual I will still be happy with it. I think the idea will help in building a stronger customer relationship.

I don't see why not. It's a simple way to show your subscribers that you value them. Little things like this can leave a good impact on your customer base. As long as you're not spamming their inboxes, I see no reason why a little "thank you for subscribing" message would be at all offensive.

Sending thank you from people who subscribe to your email list means that you appreciate them joining your site. It promotes openness, which can be an alley for you to give your subscribers added information in regards to your website.

On the other hand, your subscribers can also ask, comment or suggest whatever they need to know or say about your site. From these, a healthy communication is developed.
