Is guest blogging good or bad for SEO?

Guest blogging can be good or bad for a site depending on if the sites that you are linking to/from are good, relevant, quality sites and the links are appropriate.

If you are getting links from a bad site then guest blogging can actually harm your site so use caution. ;)
I will remember this advice. Thanks

Back in 2014, Google Warns Guest blogging

"if you’re using guest blogging as a way to gain links in 2014, you should probably stop. Why? Because over time it’s become a more and more spammy practice, and if you’re doing a lot of guest blogging then you’re hanging out with really bad company"

Check Here

Now in 2017, Google Warns Guest blogging for the 2nd time

"If the primary purpose of distributing content is to gain links, both authors and publishers risk a Google penalty"

Check Here

So answer is good / bad both , you need to use Guest Blogging Wisely.

I did not know of this information. I was considering using guest blogging to help my blog but now I will use more caution if I choose to do this. Thank you for posting this for us.

Should I play safe and not do it then so I do not get penalties?

When guest blogging began, it was a big deal. Having a high-profile website invite you to post content on their site was an honor. This started an SEO strategy that many websites incorporated as a means to get high quality content on their site without having to write it on their own.

It's a good situation for both many times since the site owner gets the content and the author gets a link. It beats having to pay someone to write for you.

Well, if you're sure that you would not be spammed then you could do that. And if you're sure you could trust them then also go for it. But if you have doubts then refrain from it.

Guest blogging may be good for your blog. It may ensure steady traffic to your blogs. On the other hand many use this strategy to spam, so be careful. Also if you think you can manage spammers then you could opt for guest blogging. and I think there isn't any difference between paid ones or those ones where you post on someone's blog and he/she posts in return. That's a good strategy by the way.

If someone wants to guest blog on my blog then how would I know if they are a spammer or not? Is there some ways to tell?

Definitely, it is good. Who are we kidding here? In fact, it's a major thing in it - along with social media and content creation. However, though, I suppose there are ways we can abuse guest blogging and people on here have already noted that.

Guest blogging is good for seo because it creates backlink. Building backlinks is one of the seo techniques. If you get backlinks your website will ranked higher. High ranked websites means you get organic traffic, traffic from search engines. Traffic and backlinks also imporves your alexa ranking with builds reputation for your website.

As abundantly mentioned before, guest posting is an extremely useful technique to build up backlinks and increase traffic at the same time.
However, although I'm not sure about that, posting the very same article on your personal website (just to quote it, for instance), too, could damage your SEO rank. Google tends to scrap similar results, especially if there are copyright licenses involved, and perfect matches could be even more subject to this. Again, don't quote me on that, but that's the only risk that came to mind, honestly.

That is one of the things that worries me. I am afraid that I might get some kind of penalty with Google and that will hurt my rankings or traffic. I only want to do things that will help and I don't want to risk hurting my blog.
