Affiliate advertisement sizes

A question for you experienced affiliate marketing Pros. Does the size of the affiliate advertisement that you use on your site play a big role in how well they do?

Is bigger the better size or maybe just something that fits right?

I think they should draw the attention of your visitors to your site but not be too huge or it will make it look low quality sometime. Bigger is not always better I think but you want them to be appropriate for what is on your page. You can just use some that are normal for the spaces they are in.

I always try to use the standard advertisement sizes and try to keep them from making my pages look poor. I think there will be a point where they are actually too big because they can make your pages look like spam and they might not do well for you.

@sam.hunt0710 : Thanks for the sizes.

@Kania : Just use something that fits in real good and not worry about making it real big?

@Maria Marketing : I am not sure what the standard sizes are. Do you know if there are any kind of sizes that Google and Bing prefer so they don't think the site is bad?

Yes @Michael I think it must look proper to the space you are using and do not make is really really big because it can make your site look like a cheap site.

I'm still trying to learn all the little things like ad sizes and things like that. I have seen some sites have big ads and others have small ads so I was curious how much the size of ads matters. Thanks

I have never heard of any particular sizes that Google and Bing prefer so you would have to look and see if you can find that in a search or something. Sorry

I am not very sure 100% what is always best. I just try testing one size that will look good and see what happens with it. Then I change it if it does not do good.

I usually use the commonly used advertisement sizes because it's easier to find replacements if needed. If one isn't performing as I want then finding something to replace it is easier if you use the common sizes.

If you use something that isn't common then it can be harder to find replacements because some advertisers only have a limited size assortment.

Bigger doesn't always mean better and you will usually find it better to test different sizes to see what gets the most action for you.

Some advertisers only have a limited selection of sizes? That seems like it would hurt them.

Yes, there are many that only have some sizes available. It's usually the smaller companies or businesses that are like this.

There are just so many different sizes available that the smaller advertisers (and some big) have a hard time producing banners in all common sizes and the more rare ones.

Wouldn't they be able to just resize them to any size without it being too hard?

I would use only 3-6 advertisements and make sure that you don't have so little text on the pages that the ads make your site look like a cheap site that is doing nothing but trying to spam a lot of advertisements for money.

Even if you are at least make it not seem so obvious.

I have been putting just 3 on my pages so there is more for people to read and they are not overwhelmed by so many advertisements.

I have always just used something that fits in the location I am needing to put the ads. I would think that if they are too small then they might not do much good and if they are too big then you might look like a low quality site.

I would just use something that fits right and looks good.

I always just use the advertisements that fit in the spots I want to place them in. I have tried many different sizes in the sidebar part of my blog but they do not seem to make any difference what size they are. I would recommend just putting an advertisement that looks good where you are wanting to put it.
