How much storage do I need?

I'm going to be starting a new blog and it will be using wordpress I think. I have been looking around at web hosting services and there can be a big difference between the amount of storage space that one or another have in their plans.

My question is how much storage space should I look for in a web hosting plan? I also want room to grow over time so I want so extra.

Unless you have a real big Wordpress website I don't think that storage space will be much of an issue. I have several Wordpress websites and I think that the largest one is under 200mb. Most web hosting plans will have more than enough storage space for your site.

I would worry more about the other resources that you might need and what their limits are.

Since you're talking about a WordPress site then most are anywhere from a few hundred MB's to a couple of GB's so most hosting plans should have more than enough space for you.

I do recommend that you look into the other resources that are included in the hosting plans as they will usually be more important, especially RAM.

Thanks both of you, I wasn't sure what exactly I would need and don't want to get a web hosting services that has not enough space for my needs both now and in the future.

I'll check some things out. Thanks for the pointers and info.

Unless you have a very large Wordpress site you should not have any kind of storage space problems on most web hosting plans unless you will be using one of those free hosts. Most of the paid ones have 1GB or more of storage and that is more than you should need.

at first it will not be a large site but over time I am going to be building it up to grow. I was just mainly wanting to make sure I did not get started and then run out of space too soon and have to do something about it.

You can probably use any of the hosting services out there since they should all give at least 1 GB of space which is plenty for 1 or 2 sites.

I think 1 gigabyte or more will be plenty for any needs. My blog I have uploaded many images and it still has only about 100-150 megabytes used.

That is what most of us do. I think you will be fine with any hosting unless it is really cheap junk hosting. The space is usually not something that is an issue with most people. It is usually other things.

Other things like bandwidth?

Alright, thanks. I always thought the storage space was the important thing but most of this hosting stuff is something I am not to educated about.
It used to be more important but they web hosts give you more space then they typically did years ago.

With the costs of storage going down then that makes sense. I was not thinking about it from that point of view.
Many things are changing fast these days and technology related services are some that change quickly. Web hosting has much more for the money than it used to in the past because of this.

I can not answer how much storage you will need for your blog but I would like to mention that you should always try to have more than you think you will be needing. This way you have room for your blog to grow over the time that you have it and are adding to it. Too much is better than too little.

I want to have more than I need but I just have not much of an idea about how much I should even start looking for. I was looking based on what some of the other replies here have been and then looking for more than that.

In the years ago we would not get as much storage space for our websites unless we bought bigger web hosting plans. No I think that storage space is in abundance with most web hosting plans that it is rarely something to worry about. Some other things are more important.

I just to give you a idea, I have over 450+ pictures on my wordpress website and I am using 3.5gb. But like others have said if you're not using a lot of pictures then your Wordpress website is going to be very small. But what ever you do you should install a cache program right off the bat. It will allow you to stay on shared hosting a lot longer. Because it will server static web pages and save server resources. I am currently using WP Super Cache.
