Is free hosting good for testing

I want to test out new things for a blog and want to know if using some free hosting for that is good for this use or should I just use paid shared hosting?

Yes it can be good for testing as long as you are not trying to test things like the website load times because most of the free hosts use cheaper components in their servers like traditional hard drives instead of ssd's.

If you're just using it for testing then I think it would fine to use free hosting. I would just not do much testing as far as page load speed since free hosts tend to have slower servers with low resources.

If you are just testing certain things like website design, website setup or things like that then it should be ok to use free web hosting.

Cheers, Dean.

A good point was made by @Waqass in that you can use free hosting to test how some things work and function but for performance testing of any kind you'll want to get a good paid plan. The free hosting companies will give only a minimum of resources so there are a lot more limits, especially with RAM.

As long as it's just to test basic things out that are not performance related then free hosting will be ok. If you want more accurate testing of everything then a good paid hosting plan is the way to go. ;)

I would say that it will be fine to use free hosting to test some things as long as you are not testing any kind of speed or other website performance. Those free hosting sites usually use cheap equipment and don't give you much to work with. That's why they are free.

I've tried the free web hosting services for testing and playing around with things. Trust me and just go and get a cheap shared hosting plan because the free services work like junk!

You're right there, especially with how cheap you can get a shared hosting plan these days. ;)

I often will get a cheap shared hosting plan just for testing and trying out new things.

I tried using free hosting for my blog and it turned out to be nothing but a headache so I switched to a paid hosting service. I don't know if using it for testing would be a good idea or not but for hosting your blogs it really isn't worth the bother.

Well this is usually a case of "You get what you pay for" and that is true with web hosting almost all the time. If you are getting it for free then the web hosting provider isn't going to give you the best resources and equipment because it does cost them money.

Even getting a cheap $2-3 dollar a month hosting plan should be better than a free hosting service.

you can test it on your pc using XAMPP or some other softwares.
That's a good way to go for testing scripts and sites before going live with them. Some people just don't know how to set it up so they go other routes.

Well since it's free you should test it. Just don't do to much testing since free hosting is known to have slower speeds, fewer disk space etc.

Very true Alex! Using free hosting for testing has some limits that will affect a lot of testing so it can really only be used for some things.

The prices that web hosting can be gotten for these days it's probably better to just get a cheap paid web hosting plan that won't have the same limits that free web hosting has.

If you are just going to be using the free web hosting for testing and it is not some kind of performance tests that you are doing then it will be fine.

If you are just getting started with your online journey, then only free hosting is good to get your feet wet. But, at some point you will need to host your site on a reputed hosting company and pay the monthly price. Also, there isn't that much to worry about, as the prices are very low and many hosting companies provide coupons these days.

Yes I now realized that free hosting can most times be a waste of time because good paid hosting is better and cheaper nowadays.

Free hosting is okay to satisfy one own mind that I have got the feel if hosting. Free hosting is not very helpful to learn the intricacies of hosting. Hence it is better to buy paid hosting even for testing.
I have tried to use free hosting in the past and it was nothing but problems. A lot of outages and my site going down. Since paid hosting is so cheap these days it is better to just buy something and avoid the headaches. I guess you can use it for testing but it is just going to be better to pay a few dollars and get some paid hosting.
