What do you think about building backlinks by press release? Is it safe?

One of the ways to build backlinks is press release. Is it safe?

I was trying to find out about this myself some months ago but I was finding some information that said it is good and some that said it is bad. I have been afraid to try it because I do not want to hurt my rankings and get some kind of google penalty.

You don't build backlinks via press release. Press release is there for a reason and that is to get publicity, getting in the news, getting in the eyes of journalists. If you are trying to use press release as a backlink strategy, then more power to you as you will be only wasting your time.

As I know, It will only help you to improve your website image. Means If someone will search your company name and your press release show in #10 result then maybe people will think that your company is big.

Maybe bit helpful for SEO, You can try this but do not post to much press release.
