Using Wix to Create Websites

I've noticed that for WIX (Wix.com) as a tool for website development, the process to create new pages is a 3 step process

1) Add the page
2) Add the button design and menue
3) Make sure it shows on all pages. (check mark on box)

Other products like Webs.com is easy as you add the page and its tab title at the same time. This seems to be more intuitive.

Are there any other tricks that I need to know using Wix? I like Wix and want to take greater advantage of it. Are there any other good tricks to know?

Honestly, I would say stay away from Wix.

You are limited to what options they give you, and if you decide to move hosting, you have to start all over!

I can't tell you how many times we have had people contact us about moving their site to us, or wanting us to create a custom design for their website, just to find out their on Wix and stuck with what they have.

Thank you. If I stay away from Wix.com, what free resource is best? Weebly.com seems to be a close comparison. WordPress has strong popularity. Or do all options have their own version of limitations in comparison with others? Thank you.

Website builders do have their place. If you need a super simple website, for a short period of time (For a special event, etc) then go for it.

If you are building a website that your going to have for a while, especially if you are going to use it to make money one way or another, do not rely on a website builder. There are too many limitations, and you cannot move your site should the need arise.

Wordpress would be a good option for a free CMS (Content Management System) that you can build your website on. Unless you go with a free Wordpress hosted site (not recommended), there will still be the expense of registering a domain name and for server hosting.

A domain will cost you around $12/year and you can get small, yet quality web hosting for about $4/month. Thats $60 a year, to have a quality setup that will be MUCH better then going with a free website builder!

Eat a PB&J instead of going out to eat once a year, and you have paid for it!

I'm in agreement with you. Now that makes good sense. $60 per year with a $12 domain makes sense. The $2,000 to $3,000 website offers that I get is what I am avoiding. Thank you.

$2k - $3k for a website could be a good price, depending upon what your needing built.

If it is something that you can build with a website builder, you should also be able to install Wordpress, pick a free or cheap theme, and install the plugins you need to make it work yourself.

Just depends on what your after, but for a fairly basic site, you should be able to do it yourself, if you don't mind putting in the time, to save the money.

I quite agree with @RDO Servers!!

One of my friends was going to use wix to build her website but I suggest her to buy a web hosting, a domain and a premium wordpress theme..and starting her website. It is running well now..

For website builders or services offering drag & drop with their tools then you should consider before using their services, it has more limitations and you can not develop your website become a big website and compete with other websites.

Building your own website has more advantages in customizing everything you want. If you can not manage some parts on your website, even you can hire a freelancer to do it for you.

I strongly suggest WordPress. Even if you decide to go with the free version (wordpress.com), whenever you decide you're ready for your own domain, it's very easy to upgrade, plus you won't lose anything. All the traffic will be automatically redirected to your new, upgraded site.

I suggest using blogger as it can be customized easily and favoured by google then other cms.

I prefer to use paid hosting and purchase ready-made theme or modify free theme.

I was try to use wix but there is lot of limitation so why I should not use blogger or wordpress.

If you really just need a couple of pages for a website and are going to just set it up and forget about it then Wix would be ok. Not the best choice but it can be ok.

If you are looking for something for a more serious or better website then using something like Wordpress would be a better option.

Wix can be useful but only if you really just need something basic and you are not worried about the quality of your website.

Wix is just like a cheap drag and drop builder and the website look cheap usually. It will be best to use wordpress or something else.

Wix would be something that would be good for someone starting out with website or blog creation/building. It can help people get a taste of what that would be like without messing anything up too bad.

If you are wanting to be taken more seriously in marketing however, I would recommend going another route. It doesn't look as professional and especially if you are using the free version and/or have the Wix logo at the bottom of your website or blog.

Wix is horrible, no offense. Some other builders I suggest are Weebly or Webs!
