Chrome or FireFox?

I really like Chrome, for all the built in web development tools. The ease at which you can jump into and out of the development tools and the tools available fit my development style quite well.

I do a lot of work in JavaScript and PHP and with the Chrome console I can easily trace variables throughout the app, troubleshoot the flow and watch the execution line by line, and I did not have to add any add-ons to the browser, which is another big plus.

I am sure there are other goods one out there, but I have just become so use to the platform that it would be a challenge for me to change.

I must admin I had not heard of SRWare Iron and I will be checking that out. I like to be aware of what is out there and that one I had not heard of before.

I very rarely use the developer tools myself but the ones in SRWare Iron are about, if not the same as the ones in Google's Chrome browser so the dev tools might just be a Chromium (where Google gets their source code) feature in general.

They are in most of the other Chromium based browsers so that also leads me to believe that they are Chromium features in general, but I am not sure on this one.

Google's version is another browser I use as well (I usually have multiples open), especially since it's extremely similar to Iron and I was using that one first. However, I switched to Ion due to it's speed over Google's and it doesn't mine the personal data like Google is famous for.

The main reason I switched was because Google Chrome tends to crash too often when you have many active tabs open at the same time and are actively using them. I regularly have 20+ different tabs open at any given time and having a browser crash often is a pain.

Most of the Chromium browsers use the same addon's also which is nice for people who use them, not that I really do.

I'm like you in that I like to be aware of what's out there as far as browsers myself. There are many I have tried and tested but there's always many more.

I remember when the browser choice was only a couple, now there are hundreds+ of them. Maybe i'm just showing my age, but it seemed so much easier when there wasn't so many choices that just figuring out which browser to use could cause a migraine!

Of course that was a joke. You are right it is getting harder and harder to keep up with all the changes and the speed at which they come.

I haven't seen that issue with Chrome but then again I very seldom have more the 4 or 5 tabs running at one time. I am going to check out that SRWare browser. If it is using the Chromium engine it sounds like I can have the best of both worlds.

I use three main browsers myself, depending on my needs. I use Chrome, Iron and Firefox regularly.

I have tried to use the new Microsoft Edge browser (explorer's supposed replacement) but the darn thing is just so SLOW that I have a hard time using it. It would be nice if Microsoft actually stepped up and produced a world class browser these days. I know, I will just hold my breath waiting for that! LOL

I use both of these but mostly firefox lately because chrome keep shutting down too often for me. It usually seems to do this when I have more than one tab open at the same time.

Does anyone know the reasons why chrome will keep shutting down or maybe how to fix this problem?

That is an interesting issue. I use Chrome more than any other browser, especially when I am developing my training, and I put it through some serious paces with all the structural changes I make on it for programming and I have not seen it shut down ever.

I will do some research with some of the Google Developers that I know and see if they have had any reports on unexplained shutdowns.

I have had that happen to me on a few occasions but it has been a couple months I think since it last happened. I always have several tabs open, usually 10+, so I don't know if that has something to do with it.

Maybe there is something else that has something to do with it. Maybe some kind of compatibility issue with another program or something. Who knows? It hasn't happened to me in a couple months, so it seems to be fixed and that's what matters.

Thank you. I would like to use it again if the issue can get fixed but I do not know what is wrong with it or how to fix it. Do you think if I remove it from my computer and then install it again that might fix the problem?

I was using google chrome but recently switched to firefox because chrome was giving me problem of freezing. I used to have firefox before so I got it again. This new version is much faster than chrome. Anyone looking for a new browser should try firefox and see how well it performs.

I used to prefer chrome but then it started getting slower for me so I switched to firefox. Now firefox is slowing down and I think it is now slower than chrome used to be for me. Does chrome ever slow down for you? I prefer it but when it started getting slower I had to switch.

Chrome never got slow for me and I have been using it for more than 5 years. And I am not sure what could have caused your Chrome to slow down. It could be your computer or Internet problem since both Chrome and Firefox got slower for you, but I am still not sure what's the actual cause of your chrome and Firefox slowing down.

I have used both at one point or another. I liked chrome when it first came out but then it got slower and slower. I tried firefox again and had the same problem. Now I use 2 or 3 different browsers that are similar to chrome with opera being my usual browser.

What is making you want to switch back to Firefox?

I am just curious because I have been testing out the latest version and it seems to perform better than in the past although I haven't done enough testing to be sure.

Is there a good web development tool on Chrome? I often have to switch to Firefox to use web development tool when needing to design some web pages.
Chrome is really fast and I like that but Firefox can be useful for any cases.

There are many good tools for web development in Chrome. If you look under the menu selection the (three dots) on the right side, select More Tools from the menu and then select, Developer Tools you will see that they have quite a good selection of tools for the web developer.

There are also some really good plugins to assist in web Development that can be added to Chrome as well as many other browsers.

Great point TC, but the reason I did not include that extension to the tools is that most of those are still in the experimental and Beta test phase.

Once all the testing has been completed and the feedback received, if they make it through that phase they will be added to the developers tools.

If you are interested, the percentage that actually make the tool set is less than 5%. The reason that most miss the mark is that they find after months of testing the reliability is not as high as they would like. And let's be honest, if a tool is not reliable, do we really want to use it?
