What is the difference between a squeeze page and a landing page?

I keep seeing these two terms being used in marketing a lot but always thought they were the same thing but just have different names that people call them. What is the difference between these?

I thought they were both just like a sales page basically but I have done some searches and just got more confused.

A landing page can be any web page on a website that visitors enter (Land) that website through.

A squeeze page is a web page that is designed to get information, sign-ups, etc. from a visitor to that site. These are often used to give away a free ebook or something else to get people to sign-up with their email.

They both can be sales pages but they both can't be squeeze pages since a squeeze page is designed to get some kind of information from the website visitor and a sales page doesn't necessarily "squeeze" information from a website visitor.

Hopefully this will help you understand the differences. If you have any other questions the feel free to ask. ;)

Thank you, this is easier to understand. The places I was looking are giving some technical explanations and I was more confused. These pages can both be on the same website correct?

a squeeze page has no ads, links, and options but a capture form which asks for name and email address. A landing page is a sales page where you pitch people to buy your product. Good Luck!

You are very welcome Keral. I know exactly what you mean. Many people give explanations and information in a manner that is way too technical.

I always believed that it's best to provide information in such a way that both technical and people new to something can understand what I am trying to explain/describe/etc., I just think that's better overall as it covers all people and not just some.

If you do not put ads or links then what do you put on it to make the person want to sign up? Maybe some kind of product information?

You give them something in return such as a free PDF or a free eBook. You shouldn't put your product information because people met you for the first time and if you straight start talking about your product, they will your page and probably never come back. But if you give them something for free or some kind of value, they will give you their name and email happily, and are very likely to buy your product later on. Here is an example of a squeeze page. Notice that there are no ads, link or any distraction. It's just a free report to give away and people enter their name and email addresses. Good Luck!Capture.PNG

Ok thank you. So it is better to give them something they want that is good so that they want more right? What if they do not want anything but the free item?

The point of giving away something free is to build trust and familiarity so in the future, people wont hesitate to buy from you. There has never been a case where people keep wanting more free stuff because people understand that you put in a lot of time and effort to build your stuff. However if you do come across people that want free stuff, you just have to ignore them and have nothing to do with them, this is because these people will never take out their credit cards and buy anything from you. Good Luck!

So then if I am building trust then is it best to give away something that is real good at first to gain their trust? That way they like dealing with you?

Yes it is best to give away something that is really good because only then they will know that your paid programs are much better and of high quality. Also if you are new and you want to give something away for free, I would recommend you to do it digitally such as a PDF because if you want to give away physical products you will need a lot of money to make the product or if it is a book, it will require a lot of money to publish it. This is because people that do give away physical products/books are very advanced marketers and have years of experience and they know how to make money even when they are loosing money while giving away free products. Good Luck!

1. A landing page is any page that is an entry point into your website. means home page.
2. A squeeze page can also be a landing page — if that is the first page a visitor ends up on. I guess (better put) all squeeze pages could be landing pages, but not all landing pages are squeeze pages.

So then your contact page can also be your landing page?

Very simply, a squeeze page is a specific type of landing page in which the visitor has the choice to opt in or leave, and that’s it. There are no other choices. They can’t navigate to another page, click on other things, or get anywhere else on your site. It’s in or out.

These types of landing pages are specifically designed to force the visitor to do what you want and nothing else.

So as an example, if you held a webinar that had an offer to sign up for a workshop, you’d want them to go to a squeeze page at the end of the webinar. You want them to make that choice: in or out. If you give them the opportunity to wander off and look at other things, they will get distracted and forget why they were there. They may even not be able to navigate back to the page because it’s not in the menu.

If you clicked the red example button above, you’ll get to my squeeze page. It gives the visitor no other choice but to opt in or leave. There is no menu or any other choice but to leave. Squeeze pages make it easy to calculate your conversion rate:

N = Number of people who filled out the form
V = Number of visitors to the page

So N/V*100% = the conversion rate. If 25 people filled out the form from 100 visitors, my conversion rate is 25%. If I change the page, do conversions go up or down?

For every page on your website, you have to define what a “conversion” is and how that visitor turns into a lead. So if you’ve optimised a page for a specific search term, like “how to train a dog to sit”, if a visitor clicks over from the search engines, you now want them to do something. Make sure you have a very clear call-to-action for them to take the next step. Some landing pages are very simple. It could be you just a single button that leads them to a form or pop-up form to fill out. Maybe you just want people to call you for more information, so you need your phone number in an obvious place. It's important to note that you shouldn’t have more than one call-to-action on any given landing page. There should be only one choice: “Do this, or move along.” If you give people multiple choices, then it muddies the water and makes it harder for them to choose what to do next. A more complicated landing page might be one that is specific for a Google ad, and you want people to fill out a form to get more information. Because people filled out this specific form, you know your ads are working: In both cases, the visitor can explore other parts of the website and navigate to other areas, including the Home page before making a decision.

The main goal of most squeeze pages is to try to get information from the people who visit that web page. Usually it's just an email or some other type of contact information that can later be used to try to sell something or promote something to the people who you gain the information from.

It helps to just ask for an email address and offer something in return like ebooks or some other digital item and not ask for money or purchases upon first contact.

A landing page is just the initial point of entry to a website or blog so technically any page that is the first one a visitor "Lands" on is a landing page!

Hope this helps.

Cheers, Dean.
