On Page SEO vs. Off Page SEO, Which is More Important?

Hello everyone,

I have been making websites and performing SEO for them, both On-Page and Off-Page SEO.
However, between On-Page SEO and Off-Page SEO, which one of the two is much more important than the other.

Is there someone here who can share some thoughts on this subject?

Both are important in terms of SEO , you have to take care of both in equal manner .

Suppose you are doing Off-Page SEO for a specific keyword and You have not done On-Page Seo for that what will be use for that .

For example :- Suppose your keyword is " Internet marketing " and you are making Do-follow links for this keyword ( Off-page Seo )

And this keyword is not present in your Meta description , Meta keywords , Articles ( On-page seo ) on your site ....

Approx 75%-80% work of your Off-page Seo is of no use .

Good explainations @Sam

I thought meta keyword is not important at this time :)

I heard about nofollow links are effective for SEO, is it true?

I prefer on site seo as if you don't go for off site seo like link building, blog commenting and other stuff, even in that case your site can get some PR value after some time because of your keywords in content, article, meta tags, plugins ( for wordpress ) and other things.

In recent years on-page SEO has become much more important with G's humming bird algo... Its a massive change in how G's crawls and understands your site with analyzing semantically related content throughout your site... Hence why use of internal links and silos can really help significantly...

Overall I believe off-page SEO still dominates... G's core ranking algo is based on backlinks which counts as votes for your site... However its the type of backlinks which matters...

I would say in terms of importance as an estimate its around 70% for off-page SEO and 30% for on-page SEO...

May be 55% for off-page SEO and 45% for on-page SEO?
I suppose that your percent can be not exact if comparing between on page and off page SEO

Indeed those are my estimated percentage values and as such its going to be different to other folks ;-) For me the difference which sets apart sites ranking on the serps comes down to quality links as the biggest factor... Getting those links is not easy and can be substantial effort... That said on-page SEO is hugely important too.... Its difficult to put a % split between the two but the important thing overall is that both areas need attention...

Both On page and off page SEO are important. As search engine like Google gives more emphasis to a webpage, which is well optimised according to its criteria.
Search engine algorithm look for several factors when they crawl through each page of your site.
On page SEO factors are as follow:

· site structure.

· keywords..

· page URL.

· alt-text of images.

· title tag.

· meta-descriptions.

· content.

· internal links.

OFF Page SEO factors
Current off-page SEO techniques focus on building relationships, not links. It’s better for you to reach out to your customer base through social media. If you create entertaining content and share it with your followers on Face book and Twitter, the customers you are interacting with may share the content on their blogs or in other communities – this way links will be created naturally.

So one should practice both on page and off page SEO.

On-page SEO is more effective because google spiders now look deeply into the content and see all the keywords that are being used.

I have been doing much research on this subject and I can say that seo is a tough subject to understand completely. I am learning many new things but I always find myself trying to figure some parts out that I am having trouble understanding. On and off page seo is one of these things that is taking time to completely understand. Kepp reading and it will start to make some sense at some point.

On page and off page optimization are two most touted words in the field of search engine optimization. Though the on-page vs off-page debate is as old as Google, it is still an area of constant debate. But the truth is both are vital to the success of an online business. Though the world of SEO has changed forever with the evolution of social media, it is very important for online businesses to understand the relevance of these two processes in order to get organic traffic from search engines.

Both are equally important if you want your website or blog to do well in the rankings. Some people think that on-page is more important and target working on that mostly and others believe that off-page is the best and put most of their efforts there.

I would always try to find a nice balance and always make sure to do both, not one or the other! ;)

I have been reading much information on this and most people say they are both needed for the best results. Some people though think that off page is better and is more important. I do not know if this is true but I think both will always be better.

As long as you don't have a horrible website then off-page SEO will usually help your website out much more as long as you are doing it correctly. You can rank a site that has just average on-page SEO as long as your off-page SEO is good.

Off-page SEO's main technique is to build backlinks to your website. Google and the other search engine sites see backlinks as a sign of authority, relevance and quality. The way they see it is if lots of sites are linking to yours then it must be a good site. Of course the links you build must be quality links and dofollow links to get the high impact on your site's rankings.

Both would be best always, but if you can only do one (for whatever reason) then it should be off-page SEO.

Cheers, Dean.

You can't have one without the other.

On-Page SEO is much simpler than and than Off-Page, time wise most of your attention and focus is going to be off-page. I say 5% of your time will be on-page and 95% will be off page.
