what do you think of .blog domains?

I have a blog and I am using a .com domain and I just noticed there is a .blog domain. Are these good to use for our blogs? I like how these can let people know that the link is for a blog so I was thinking about changing to 1 of these if it is a good idea.

I saw them offering these on wordpress I think. Like other newer domain types I think these might cost you some traffic because people might not realize they are real domains yet. If the prices are good then you can get one and try it out to see how good it will do for you compared to others you have.

I thought that might be happening at first but since there are so many new domains always coming out I was thinking it might be ok. I might try 1 to see if it will do good or not.

I think they might be good later but for now the .com domain is the best one to have. I looked at them when I saw a blog that was using one on Facebook but saw that the domain prices were higher than a .com is too. Maybe if you find a real good one you can get it and save it to use later.

To me they seem like more of a gimmick than a real domain that is just trying to get bloggers to buy them just to make money. They are much better than many of the others that I have seen that are new though.

.blog is quite a new domain extension. However people tend to remember the .com domain. So, according to me you better stick with a .com domain name.
What about if it is for a real good name that is short and good to remember?

Someone else told me that but I just think if I buy it then I should use it.

I know they are just trying to get bloggers to buy them but they do help to explain what the domain is for.

The .blog domain extension would be alright for some uses but you are still going to leak traffic to the .com version (if there is 1) of the domain.

Meaning that if you have something like "example.blog" you will lose some traffic to "exampleblog.com" because some people don't understand that .blog is a real domain extension and others will do it out of habit of typing in .com at the end of a domain.

If you can live with than and it's a good name then go for it and see what happens with it. If you have enough success with your blog then people will remember the .blog part. ;)

Ok I understand it. I think if I lose a little of the traffic it will be fine then. I will have to think about it.

I have not been too big of a supporter for the new domains but that one I do like better than most of them. You will probably lose some small amount of traffic like others have said but if it's for a pretty new blog then it might not make a big difference.

I have always stuck with mainly .com domains myself but I have bought a few of the new TLD's for future use. I think that for now a .com would be the best choice but when those are not available to fit a person's needs than using an alternative will be fine.

Since you have said that you found a good name then I would go ahead and get it and see what happens with using it. You may be happy with the results that you get.

I think the .blog is one of the best new ones because there are so many blogs on the internet and this one would be very appropriate for using for them.

Yep, there is definitely a big market for those. It's just going to be a matter of getting everyone to use them and them becoming more familiar.

How would you know if they were a real ninja or not? :p
If they were real Ninja's then you would not hear or see them. :p

I think people will get used to them and start using them once they have seen a lot of them being used.

Oh I am sure that they will get used to them but just how long it will take is the question.
