Hello,

I would like to put up an e-commerce site but I can not decide between Joomla and WordPress, which suits e-commerce?
Anyone here used or tried both these platforms please give me any advice

Thanks in advanced.

I tried these cms, they are really good, while wordpress is easy to use then Joomla needs your knowledge on its system.

These two are created specifically for content management. That is why in their original form, they do not contain e-commerce sections.

As time has crept by, Plug-ins and component developers have designed e-commerce applications for the two.

In view of this, if you wish to use Joomla or WordPress for e-commerce, you will have to contend with several utilities that are not e-commerce oriented such as Links, Articles, Comments, and Image Galleries among others.

E-commerce solutions such as OpenCart and TomatoCart are what you should be going for if you insist on e-commercial ventures.

So, if you are not expert in web design field, i would suggest you try wordpress, easy to customize, more plugins and frienly with users via its templates (include free and paid themes), it call as responsive design.

Hope it helps.

I advice you to go with Wordpress, rather than Joomla, for many reasons, wordpress has many supporting tools which u may need in your future improvement including plugins, and many additional sources.

I was actually looking into this because I have been considering selling a few items on a blog I am going to be creating and I have been doing some research. I found that there are so many more options if you use wordpress rather than joomla.

There are a lot more themes, plugins, payment system options and so on for wordpress to help make an ecommerce website easier to manage and process orders.

I agree with you. There is just so much stuff out there for a Wordpress ecommerce site that it would be hard to choose any other software of it's type. Depending on what you are selling, Wordpress has themes and plugins to help you sell and market just about anything.

WordPress + WooCommerce is an excellent choice.
Magento, Opencart, Tomatocart, shopify : Pure eCommerce Platforms require technical knowledge to some extent for setting these up properly. Moreover these plugins/added functions are normally through paid modules.
WordPress, Joomla, Drupal: CMS but can be extended to eCommerce using plugins.
Lets select WordPress due to its ease of use and popularity
Wordpress + Woocomerce : Best combo, easy to setup, number of free themes available, free plugin for almost any function you require.
WordPress + WP eCommerce: second most popular plug-in. Again limited themes and plugins in front of WooCommerce. Rest of other plugins including Jigoshop, marketpress, cart66 all have their limitation in one place or another. So who's the champ yes it is Wordpress + Woocomerce!

Yes, I agree. I did some research several months ago and found that WordPress + WooCommerce is the best choice most of the times.

I have been working on a website for a few months now built with these, hopefully I can get it completed soon to start making money from it. ;)

I think I saw something somewhere about wordpress and their plugins. Something like "We have a plugin for that". Probably true as there seems to be plugins for just about anything you want wordpress to do.

Yeah, I remember seeing that somewhere. I can't remember if it was for Wordpress or not, but it probably was.

As a host, I see very few successful e-commerce sites on Joomla.

If the choice is really between Joomla and WordPress I would choose WordPress and probably WooCommerce.

Woo-Commerce on Wordpress for the simpler shops, or complex shops that do not have retail premises. The largest guys, are on Magento.
Probably 2/3 Woo-Commerce (Wordpress) and 1/3 Magento (only a small % of other carts).

The Magento guys usually have the largest number of visitors, but that's probably not due to the technology.

I have not heard of this one. Is it a good one to use or is it better to just use woocommerce?

I was thinking about starting an ecommerce website and want to try a couple of plugins to see which one is the best.

To be honest I didn't found any reason to go away from WooCommerce when it has all the features/plugins you desire. You name it and you get it. So if you want to play around I would again recommend going for WC as it has a great community behind it.

I agree. I was doing a lot of research a few months ago because I was thinking about starting an ecommerce website with Wordpress an Woocommerce and wanted to see if there was anything better.

After a lot of looking around, reading and researching I found that the other ecommerce platforms just don't have all the advantages that there are with using Wordpress an Woocommerce.

Cheers, Dean.
