Hi everyone, there are so many graphic design software tools available on the market today.

In your experience, which is the best graphic design software? Which one do you prefer?
PhotoShop, Corel Draw, Gimp or Illustrator?

I'd outrule GIMP since although it's handy it's not comparable to the premium products.

Photoshop and Illustrator have two different primary aims. Photoshop, as the name suggests is more geared towards photographic work and raster (pixel based) graphics, whereas Illustrators' focus is vector graphics.

As a logo designer, I work with Illustrator 95% of the time since I don't need to be creating and measuring graphics by pixels. I also design stationery which is relevant to page sizes and metrics.

When I have web based / raster work to do, I use Fireworks which is part of the Adobe Creative Suite.

Illustrator however is my bread and butter. :)

I prefer Photoshop myself but a big part of that is the fact that I am more familiar with it and I can do more things with it. Based on what I usually need to design, create or alter Photoshop works well.

If I needed to work with or create a logo then Illustrator would be best but I still have a lot to learn to do with it before I can be more proficient and be able to produce things that are high enough quality to be happy with. I just need to find the time to work with it more and probably take some training courses for it.

Cheers, Dean.

PTS and AI are the best. I studied how to use all these tools without attending any design class. There are many great sources on the internet, you can download and learn by yourself.

  • Vector art
  • Image editing
  • 3D software
  • Data visualization
  • Other useful tools
So scroll through this list and try out some of the free applications available to you – you may not need that Adobe subscription after all…

I prefer Coral draw and Photoshop too. Photoshop is mostly used for creating graphics for web and paint illustrations. Photoshop is mostly used in the software houses but there are many users who do not like Photoshop. Photoshop is a raster graphics editing program and Coral draw is vector editing program. Coral draw and illustrator can be used for designing logos and graphics for print, as well as cartoons that use fewer color transitions, but Coral draw is better than illustrator. But illustrator is also easier to use as compared to Coral draw.

I have very little experience using either of these but I have been wanting to learn more about how to use them and get familiar with all of their functions. I usually just use PhotoShop for my needs till I can learn these two different software programs.

Illustrator is very easy to learn. Even Photoshop is a bit difficult to learn as compared to illustrator. Since you are already using Photoshop, you will be able to design in illustrator in a very short period of time. After learning to use the basic tools, you will be able to create illustrations without much help. You can learn Coral draw and illustrator from Udemy and Lynda websites.

that Adobe Suite: InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop and Lightroom should be the good choices for industry standard. These tools are professional and accurate in details. The obstacle is that any one of them would need much disk apace and it takes time to learn how to use them.
