what is the difference between wordpress hosting and normal hosting in godaddy?

I have recently visited godaddy's website, to find out their hosting plans. But I was confused to see that they are providing normal web hosting packages and a separate hosting plan named as "Wordpress Hosting". I didn't understood what's the reason for it. Could you please share your opinion on this issue. What is the difference between them, normal hosting and wordpress hosting?

"Wordpress hosting" is not much more then a marketing scheme.

Pretty much any shared hosting can host a wordpress website no problem. Most also have a "1 click" wordpress install script to make it easier to get started with a Wordpress site. Some may include some free themes or plugins and call it wordpress hosting, but that's about all. Just because you have a wordpress site, does not mean you need specific "wordpress hosting".

Keep in mind, in the web hosting industry, GoDaddy is considered a good domain registrar. The same does not necessarily apply to their web hosting.

Some companies spend the majority of their budget on quality infrastructure and support, others spend the majority of their budget on advertising.....

Well, I would recommend researching Godaddy before jumping the boat as many have stated that their WP hosting is no different that regular hosting. Also, note that their plans are based on visitors which is something i have noticed that people overlook.

In regards the whole WordPress hosting in general...

Even though it is true that "WordPress hosting" is used by many hosts as marketing by advertising packages with such label since with pretty much any hosting company can install/host WordPress, there are companies who are fully dedicated to WP hosting. Therefore, I personally do not think there is a correct answer to using this type of hosts or not since their focus is WP and their can be some real benefits such as:

- Secured WP out of the box (amazes me how people don't make this a big point as it leads clients getting their hosting suspend due to attacks). So, as a personal and professional tip, WP is not just about installing WordPress and you are good go but ensuring it's fully secure.
- proactive security towards WP (i.e. screen plugins, ensuring all installs are up to date, etc...)
- optimization
- Dedicated support staff for WP only as regular web hosts might not provide you support in areas that are out of scope.
- If your site does get compromised they usually will help with the clean up.

If you are comfortable and willing to take the time to learn WordPress any web host will be able to do it as mentioned before and prior posts but also remember you need to learn how to properly secure it , configure it, use appropriate plugins, and ensure you are up to date 100% of the time.

This is a good point. Some hosting providers that specialise in WP will be able to provide more support then some other hosts. Be sure to ask questions and make sure you understand what they will provide, and what is still your responsibility.

Either way, it is worth taking the time to learn about properly managing a Wordpress site, or elicit the help of a freelancer to handle this for you. Ensuring your Wordpress site is updated is very important, but this is only part of the secure website puzzle.

As a web hosting provider, I will tell you that we (like the other hosts on here) take very good care of our customers and sometimes go out of our way to provide more help than we actually should. However, I will also say don't rely on your host to make sure your site is 100% secured and optimised all the time.

Just like with website backups. We provide secure, offsite, daily backups for all of our accounts. We have never had any data loss whatsoever. However, I still suggest people maintain their own backups, just in case! We have several customers that have come from other providers that lost all of their data, and there was a "fluke problem" with the backups and were not able to restore the customer content.

I have bad experience with godaddy hosting, it looks like an incomplete web hosting service, lack of functions and things I need to run website perfectly.

I would suggest godaddy for buying domain names, not for web hosting.

Thanks for Your Kind Opinion on My Question.

Thank You for providing a brief answer. It's very helpful for me. Now I am able to choose the best hosting plan for my website.

I have also faced this issue many times when I change my host. The backup file does not work on the new server and all my data is gone. I will keep your advice in mind for future. Again I would like to thank you for your suggestions.

I see! godaddy's not good for hosting. I should better find a good host for my website. Thank You for your answer.

When it comes to web hosting there is no right host, only the one that is good for you. Most people pump big hosts like hostgater or hostmonster, however they don't know they are owned by EIG, EIG owns alot of hosting companies.. many people are happy with them, and many are not. Many people search out smaller companies for more personal support.

Godaddy is a large company and it started out and specializes in domains at cheap prices.. they started adding other services to make more money.. how well they manage their services is beyond me, as I do not use them

For many Simple html pages work great on EIG hosting, where there is low traffic and resource use, however once you get to a certain level, you will be suspended, or deleted.. so a wordpress environment may not be the best for EIG hosting where you expect to get over 300 visitors a day.

When it comes to web hosting anywhere, ask questions.. What questions you ask? These for a start: What is your resource use policy for this package, and is it different for other shared packages? What is the package memory limit? what is the package cpu usage limit? Do you Use cloudlinux? Now this may or may not be a big issue depending on how many clients are on the server. What about mysql connection limits, are there hard limits, and what are they for the package I am interested in, are there different limits for each package? Are there inode limits? Are there mail sending limits? What other limits are there that I have not asked about? If a webhost can not or will not answer any of these type of questions.. then you should move on.

These questions are just my recommendation when choosing a host.

I didn't know that EIG is the owner of those big hosting companies. As you said I should not rely on them for my site based on wordpress. Because I don't want my site to be deleted from their server at a time when It's ranked. It would have a bad effect on my site's profile. Moreover, Thank you very much for your helping post. I have now changed my mind and began to search for another good hosting provider. Could you suggest me any good provider based on your experience?

Godaddy is owned by Godaddy. EIG has done their best to hide many of their brands, there is however a larger argument on wikipedia about their brands and you can google endurance international group brands to find an exhaustive list.

I could be self serving and recommend myself as I have great experience with myself as a web host :p However, Would I be right for you, I don't know, as I don't offer 24/7 support, I offer softaculous that does one click installs. I keep an eye on my server and my clients to see if they are using extensive resources. I expect my clients to be knowledgeable to be able to handle most of their own affairs.

I would recommend the following as they have proven themselves with a pretty solid reputation @ WHT. I have also personally used them on the past and have nothing negative.
- MDDHosting
- Crocweb
- Hawkhost

I will surely try one of these hosts to host my website. As per your suggestion I think they would prove best for my website.

There isn't much difference between the two companies when it comes to reliability. What I recommend is looking at a small to medium sized company that will provide you with reliable solutions and 1-on-1 support. There are a lot of companies listed in the advertising section of this forum that may be able to help you out.

If you could elaborate on your specific requirements, I may be able to point you in the right direction. As stated by the numerous users who posted in this thread, I do not recommend going with Godaddy or any EIG Owned company.

Based on the advises of all the users in this thread, I will never use an EIG owned company or godaddy.
As you asked I need a hosting provider for a wordpress website in which I will share content about Graphics Designing. I have planned everything and just waiting for the hosting provider, That can handle a lot of visitors daily and have good uptime. The space actually does not matter that much because I am not going to upload anything on the server, except the site.
