Is it necessary to build a brand to be successful in internet marketing?

What I mean is, is it necessary to be a specialist in whatever you are marketing, or would just being a salesman suffice?

If you're a real good salesman then you can have the potential to earn good money without being a specialist of a product or service.

Though it does help to be at least somewhat knowledgeable of whatever you are marketing. This way you would have a better idea as to where would be a good place to market for potential customers/clients. This will also make it easier if you were to maybe do some kind of review and/or blog post about whatever you are marketing. Plus if potential customers/clients have questions you would have more knowledge and be able to provide them with the information they want quicker and easier.

It's not necessary to be a specialist in what you are marketing since most people are marketing things that they aren't specialist for but they are still successful. It will greatly help though since you would have knowledge and experience that many do not have.

Knowledge is power online, and that can translate into more money and success!

Cheers, Dean.

I think that the more that you know about something that you are trying to market then the more success you will be able to achieve. It is always easier to sell things that you know a lot about.

I think that any true IM can become a specialist as it all stems from research. I have numerous niches in which I don't know a thing about, and many more that I've never actually heard of until doing a bit of keyword research. Amazon for instance has a plethora of products, and as long as you do your due dilligence and take the time and effort to conduct good research, you can easily become a salesperson first, and specialist second....

I think that being a specialist can make it much easier to gain success but I do not think that you have to be a specialist if you are a good salesperson.

That's very true but the thing is that many people, especially those new to IM just want to find something that they can market quickly without doing any research at all. It stems from a lazy mentality and the desire to make money without doing much.

Most people don't realize that if you do some research on something that you are or might market then that can actually help you make more money. ;)
