Paid Links, Guest Blogging, and Directories

Google is opposed to paid links. In that case, they will punish the ranking of those thought to be involved in it. However, though, guest blogging and high-quality directories seem to be let off the hook. Why is this the case and is it logical from Google's POV to take this stand?

I think that as long as, you have a backlink on a site with good pagerank, it will improve your seo.

Directories are a bit old school but still a good way to promote your website specially if it is a niche directory, the same with guest blogging, the important part is for you to put your link out in the world

Google really does not hate paid links. Google hates link schemes. If you buy links from high authority website than it would be a great addition to your backlink score. However if you forcely try to manipulate your backlinks with link schemes and spamming than it might be a problem for you.
