Short or Long marketing emails?

I am looking at improving my email marketing success rates and was wanting some input on the length of the emails.

Should I go for longer emails with more information or shorter emails that are to the point?

I have always kept my marketing emails on the shorter side but not too short to look like complete spam. I keep them short but with some relevant information and direct them to my site for more information usually.

It's different for different things obviously though.

It really depends on what the email is about for me. Some things I have emails that are short and some are a little longer depending on what the content is about.

One thing for sure is that you don't want them to be too long because many people will just not read a long email.

I was always keeping them short but I was thinking that if they were longer it might give the people more information and maybe help get more sales.

I thought that if they were too long that would hurt but I was thinking that a little longer than I usually do will help give more information and help my sales.

If they were real short then maybe a little extra could help out but just don't make them too long that people abandon them before finishing what you sent them.

I like to keep mine short with just enough information to help draw them to come to my blog for more information on this and maybe a conversion.

You can try testing some longer ones and shorter ones and see how they do.

I am new to marketing so I don't know if everything applies to marketing emails but I know from a person who gets a lot of them in my inbox and that is if they are long then I usually won't finish reading them if I was not expecting the emails. Short ones I will read most of the time but when they get too long I just delete them.

I like to keep the emails short but not too short. Make sure that you have all the needed information to catch the attention of the reader but don't make them too long that the person does not finish reading the email.

I heard a saying for marketing emails 1 time it said short and sweet was the way to get better conversions and traffic for your site. Everyone hates long emails and most people will not read long ones so I agree that short is the best choice.

It looks like everyone thinks that marketing emails should be short so I will try doing them that way and see what happens. Thanks for all the posts. :)

I think they should be not too short but still short so that people will look all the way through them and see your offers or maybe click on your links.

When I get long email I usually do not read them all the way and I know many people are this same way.

I would keep them brief but more that just a couple of sentences. I know I hate reading long emails but I do want to know what I am looking at.

I would just provide the information that is needed and nothing more. You don't like to read real long emails right? So then most people are the same way.

Take a look at this as if you were the one that received an email from someone. Would you prefer reading a long email or a short one that gets to the point? Most people will not finish long emails that are not important to them or they did not expect.

I agree with @JohnQ on this one. Think about it from your own viewpoint and ask yourself how likely you would finish a long marketing email.

I would go on the short but informative side myself. ;)

That's a good way to look at it. It seems like everyone thinks short is better for emails so that's what I am going to use. Thank for the point of view. :)

I think that is the way to go if you want to get the best response from the readers. These days everyone is in a hurry so short emails will be read more often over long ones.

I think it is better to just provide the information that you need to give and then direct the people to go to your site for more information. This way it can help get you some more traffic.

Do not make it too short it will look a spam and also not too long it will look so tiring to read and give a response, average length of a letter will do just make it brief by being clear and direct to the point with intention in writing the letter so you can have thier response
