I do. It really helps engage with users coming to my site, plus it shows you are not some bot submitting content. And like Luca said, it's true that there are people out there spamming but, there are many plugins that help with that, and only allow comments to be published after reviewing them. It's that simple. :)

Allow only Genuine Comments which are really meant to your website.. Actually this is the way to get spam so do not approve ll comments and it can be harmful

I use ASKIMES of wordpress to protect my website from spammers. Without user's comments your website looks like dead

I allow them on some of my websites but the comments are held in moderation before I approve them to be seen by the public.

I was getting a lot of spam until I added a captcha to the comment form. After that it stopped the hundreds of spam comments I was getting.

As long as you take measures to help prevent spam then having comments on your blog can be a nice help to gain traffic and it also shows the search engines that your site is active. A win, win.

I allow them on a couple of my sites but most I do not. I used to allow them on all my sites but these days most of the people that are commenting are only doing it for links, and they make it REALLY obvious with their vague comments.

So for the most part it really isn't worth it for many of them so I just do it on a couple that I think it might actually be good for.

Google used to give a nice boost to sites that got a lot of comments but I believe they they either stopped doing that or have lowered it's importance so much that it makes it a waste of time and effort to deal with. ;)

I have actually been thinking a lot about this and I am not sure if I want to allow comments or not. I will probably try it at first and see how it goes. If I get too much spam then i'll just stop allowing them. :)
