Difference between a Forum and a Blog?

Blog starts with an Article written by the blog owner and your visitors can leave their comments where as Discussion forum starts with a post written by anyone and other members can reply.

You can say that blog is top-bottom authority. Writer and admin of the website have 100 authority. And the commentator have 10 authority.

On the other hand, the forum work on peer-to-peer base system. Person with most of the post have greater authority compared with new ones.

These are 2 totally different things.

The main differences are:

A blog is a website where an individual, company, etc., write articles that contain information, advice, stories, etc. A blog doesn't have to be interactive with it's viewers, which is why not all blogs are open for comments.

A forum is a website that is intended to be open for discussion. Someone posts/creates a thread (opening comment, question, information, etc.) and other people reply to what is posted. A forum is meant to have interaction, usually by members who have joined that forum.

A blog is just a site that you make posts with information and other things. A forum is what you are on now. It is just a place for people to talk about things and get help or maybe too advice also from many people. A blog is more for reading things.

Some of the key differences have been pointed out, however one key difference between the two has yet to be posted here. That is that with a blog, most people are not able to make posts on it. As with most forums, anyone can make posts, so long as they are a member (where required) and follow the rules and guidelines set by the owner/s, administrators and staff.

Also some forums have blogs and some blogs have forums. I guess these are going to be different from regular separate forums and blogs.

One of the simpler ways of explaining this to my customers that I have used is I tell my customers when they ask this question is a blog is more like a lecture on a particular topic. You explain the topic and give examples of your points expecting little or no feedback from the majority of the viewers. They can leave comments but most times those are merely comments either reinforcing the topic or questioning the premise.

A forum is more of a conversation. A question or subject is posted and interested parties will voice their opinions or solutions to the question. Comments and solutions on a forum are expected and a good forum will expect and receive comments from the members that build on the information stored in the forum. A forum is also like a learning portal.

Of course over the last few years, with the numbers of ways available to interact with the participants in a Blog that line has become blurred. Most Blogs now store historical data on their topics and it is getting easier to research older topics on a blog that a few years ago was not available.

Yes and many times when you leave a comment on a blog then you will not get a reply from the blog owner. Many times I post a comment and ask a question about the post and the blog owner does not even reply. They just want to have comments on the blog to get better rank in search engine sites.

A blog has everyone commenting on the blog owners content and thoughts where a forum is more of a free for all (with rules) where everyone gets to start a topic and everyone else comments.
